Examinations

Form of the examination

The final physiology examination is conducted in person and consists of two parts: a written test and an oral examination. The examination date for which the student is registered corresponds to the oral examination date. The written test takes place one day prior to the oral examination.

Beginning: 8.00 a.m.

Location: Institute of Physiology, Practical room B

Written test

Students will receive a sheet of paper containing 10 questions, each from a different chapter of physiology. Students are expected to write short answers in the form of a few points or sentences. Each question is scored 0–4 points. The maximum possible score is 40 points. A minimum of 28 points (70%) is required to pass the test. The duration of the test is 30 minutes.

The teacher evaluating the test will inform students of the result no later than at 12:00, via MS Teams message or e-mail. By agreement with the teacher, students may receive more detailed feedback either through a MS Teams video call or a personal meeting at the Institute of Physiology during working hours. We ask students to sign the test form legibly in block letters and to clearly state their university e-mail address in order to avoid communication issues regarding test results.

Oral examination

Students who successfully pass the written test will receive an invitation to the oral examination in the afternoon from their examiner, either by e-mail or via MS Teams. The invitation will specify the time and room of the examination.

During the oral examination, the student draws two questions. Approximately 10 minutes are provided for preparation of short notes, after which the student presents the topics. The examiner may ask additional questions. When awarding the final grade for the physiology examination, the following are taken into account: performance in the oral examination (highest impact), result of the written test, grades obtained in the first and second semesters.

Important note

- Students may proceed to the oral examination only if they pass the written test (minimum of 28 points). Students who fail the written test do not proceed to the oral examination, and the evaluation for that examination term is Fx. This rule applies to all examination terms except the second (last) examination term for students who transfer the physiology examination to the 3rd year. These students are allowed to take the oral examination even if they fail the written test.

- Students who pass the written test but fail the oral examination are not required to repeat the written test at subsequent examination dates. They will be invited directly to the oral examination.

- Students may take the physiology examination only if they have completed both physiology courses and fulfilled the prerequisite, i.e. successfully passed the anatomy examination. Students who have not met these requirements will not be admitted to the examination, and their examination date will expire.

- Students are required to present their ISIC card at both the written test and the oral examination.

- Formal clothing is required for the examination.
