HISTORY OF IFL

The origin of the Institute of Foreign Languages dates back to 1953. In that year the general university Department of Foreign Languages was established. Ten years later this centralized institution was transformed into autonomous departments of languages, where the departments of languages at both the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Pharmacy Comenius University existed under the joint management until 1981. After seven years of coexistence within rectorate grouping of foreign languages there occurred a re-split into separate departments. The year 1991 was the turning point when a department of languages was established at the Faculty of Medicine Comenius University and it has been in operation under the name of the Institute of Foreign Languages (IFL) until now.
