Department of Neonatology and Intensive Medicine
TIME SCHEDULE
Teaching at the NKIM during the Covid-19 pandemic is carried out exclusively online until further notice - follow the MS-Teams' calendar and university e-mail.
Students during the course in practical exercises will be tought the following:
- physical examination of the newborn (history taking, physical examination)
- care of premature newborns
- care of risk term neonates
- care of children with very low and extremely low birth weight
- care of newborns with withdrawal syndrome
- the treatment of hypertrophic newborns
- care of newborns with hemolytic or hemorrhagic diseases
- care of children with cancer observed in the neonatal period
- pre- and post-operative care of infants with severe congenital malformations of the urinary
system
- pre- and post-operative care of premature infants with immature retina damage
- the diagnostics and treatment of a wide variety of congenital metabolic disorders
- pre- and post-operative care of newborns with congenital or acquired hydrocephalus
- the differential diagnosis of respiratory insufficiency, jaundice, cyanosis, convulsions etc.
The students are obliged to prepare, respect, and follow the rules listed below, when participating in the practicals:
- Theoretical Readiness
- Punctuality
- Be in good health
- Clean medical clothes, indoor slippers, personal stethoscope, pen and paper
- Politeness, courtesy, gentleness during newborn screening investigation
- Absolutely no chewing gum, cigarette breath, painted nails
- The use of mobile phones in prohibited during practicals
- In the case of absences the student is obliged to compensate within the norms stated in the
guidelines stated by the Dean of the Medical Faculty.
