Rules for practice

The practicals begin at 8.30 a.m. Each student must have their own stethoscope, be dressed in white and wear overshoes. A student's identification card (the ISIC card) must be visible on the overcoat.

Other belongings (coats, bags, etc.) will be left in the medics' locker room in the basement of the hospital policlinic.

Students sign in the present list at the clinics secretariat with Ms. Bagiová at the 8th floor .

The content of Internal Propedeutics :

    Presentation and training in conversing with patient and obtaining medical history. Basic principles and terms explanation, analysis of the clinical status from symptoms to the diagnosis. Documentation of the patient care and medical reports.

    Principles of the physical examination. Status praesens generalis (general present status). Examination of the head, neck. Repeating the conversation with the patient and taking medical history.

    3.

    Examination of the chest and heart I – inspection, percussion, palpation.

    Practical presenting of the examination, individual training. Presenting special cases. Examination of the patient together with the teacher. Repeating the conversation with the patient and taking medical history. Individual examination of the patient, writing clinical status.

    4.

    Examination of the chest and heart II – auscultation. Practical presenting of the most common findings, individual training of auscultation. Presenting special cases. Repeating the conversation with the patient and taking medical history. Individual examination of the patient, writing clinical status.

    Basic principles of electrocardiography. Evaluation of the normal and pathologic electrocardiograms. Presenting pathological ECGs with the brief explanation of the clinical status.     Credit test is written before the exam in internal medicine, at the department, where the exam will take place.

  2. Infections and tumors of the upper respiratory tracts  and lungs. Lung abscess. Eemphysema of the lungs. Pleural puncture. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Asthma bronchiale. Cor Pulmonale chronicum.
  3. Tuberculosis. Differential diagnosis of tuberculosis in X-ray. Tuberculosis treatment regimens.
  4. Lung tumors.
  5. Diseases of joints, bones and connective tissue. Examination of a patient with rheumatic disease. Basic diagnostic approaches.

The content of Internal Medicine 3 is gastroenterology and hematology

  1. Physical examination of abdomen. Imaging examination methods in gastroenterology (sonography, irigography, enteroclysis, CT, NMR). Laboratory examination methods in gastroenterology (hematological and biochemical tests.)
  2. Emergency conditions (acute complications) in gastroenterology with a focus on acute GI-bleeding.
  3. Endoscopic examination of the gastrointestinal tract. Ascites punction.
  4. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Colon diseases.
  5. Liver disease. Liver cirrhosis - diagnostics, clinical findings and basics of therapy. Liver biopsy.
  6. Anemias. Blood transfusion - indication, contraindications, progression, complications.
  7. Leukemias. Splenomegaly. Lymphadenopathy. Blood coagulation disorders

Content: endocrinology, diabetology and nephrology.

Students should acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills in diagnosing and treating the underlying disease units in endocrinology, diabetology and nephrology. Understand the pathophysiologic nature of the disease.

Renal failure. Acute kidney injury / failure - definition, causes, diagnosis, treatment. Secondary glomerulopathies - with a focus on diabetic nephropathy

8.

Chemical examination of urine, sonography of kidneys (practical examples). Basic symptoms in nephrology (isolated findings, nephritic syndrome, nephrotic syndrome). Glomerulonephritis - definition, diagnosis, treatment. Chronic kidney disease - definition, diagnosis, treatment, indication for dialysis and kidney transplantation.

 Credit test is written before oral exam, during examination period.

CONTENT: GERIATRICS, PNEUMOLOGY AND PTHISEOLOGY, OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE, TOXICOLOGY AND PHYSIATRY.

Students should acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills in diagnosing and treating the underlying disease units in geriatrics, pneumology and pthiseology, Occupational Medicine, Toxicology and physiatry (physical medicine and rehabilitation). Understand the pathophysiologic nature of the disease. Acquire knowledge for differential diagnostic consideration

PRACTICALS:

Occupational medicine and toxicology 

  1. Diagnosis, treatment, evaluation and compensation of work related health damages - occupational diseases and work related diseases. Specification of history taking. Examination methods like functional test, photopletysmography etc.
  2. X-ray in diagnostic of occupational lung diseases. Joint and muscle disorders from the view of occupational medicine.
  3. National Toxicological Information Center. How to provide information and assistance on diagnosing and treatment of all cases of acute intoxication.

Geriatrics 

  1. Seminar on geriatrics - definition, epidemiology, organisation of health care of elderly people. The process of aging. Specifications of clinical picture, diagnostic procedures and treatment in elderly peoples.
  2. Summary examination and elaboration of a patient using all the knowledge from geriatrics - repeating and training of the conversing with the patient, clinical examination and writing clinical status, medical documentation.

Physiatry (Physical medicine and rehabilitation) 

  1. Physical procedures to enhance and restore functional ability and quality of life to those with physical impairments or disabilities. Electrotherapeutical procedures (galvanic currents, diadynamic currents, interference currents, TENS, micro currents, currents for electrostimulation and electrogymnastics). Magnet therapy. Inhalation treatment. Massage. Impact waves. Laser, photo and water therapy.
